Facebook potrebbe far pagare il traffico agli sviluppatori

Buona parte degli sviluppatori che hanno partecipato alla conferenza South by SouthWest (SXSW) che quest'anno si è tenuta ad Austin in texas, ha dichiarato che la loro paura più grande è che Facebook possa decidere di farli pagare.

La preoccupazione principale è che prima o poi il gigante dei social network possa decidere di fare cassa sfruttando le orde di compagnie che usano le sue API e che hanno accesso alle centinaia di milioni di utenti di Facebook ogni giorno.

Non sono paure infondate. Si pensi che gia all'inizio dell'anno Google ha deciso di chiedere un piccolo contributo da tutti quelli che usano estensivamente i servizi di Google Maps. In questo caso si parla di pochi dollari ogni 1000 mappe scaricate oltre il limite giornaliero di 25000.

Ma nel caso di Facebook le circostanze potrebbero essere diverse. Google di sicuro non sta cercando di affermarsi, mentre per la compagnia di Zuckerberg c'è ancora spazio per ulteriore espansione. E per fare questo, ha bisogno di tutto il traffico che può ottenere dagli sviluppatori.

E' facile capire per quale motivo Facebook sia tanto attraente per quelle compagnie che cercano di ottenere un po di attenzione online. Dando accesso diretto ad una rete alla quale accedono circe 800 milioni di utenti, metà dei quali accedono regolarmente ogni giorno, il social network è sicuramente un occasione difficilmente ripetibile. Si chieda a Zynga per esempio, la compagnia deve gran parte della sua espanzione a Facebook.

Ovviamente nessuno può escludere a priori che un giorno Zuckerberg si svegli e decida di voler sfrittare anche la possibilità di far pagare il traffico, ma secondo gli analisti questa ipotesi è verosimile ma ancora non praticabile. Facebook ha bisogno dei suoi sviluppatori, almento tanto quanto gli sviluppatori hanno bisogno di Facebook.

I am running the paid vresion of this app and so far I like it a lot. It is the app that has come the closest in satisfying all my profile switching needs. I have a Droid.Ideas/Suggestions/Wishes1. Profile priority based on order of profiles (for when multiple profiles conflict)2. Separate vibrate for notifications. I understand it is not possible to access notifications/vibrate for individual apps like email, sms, etc, but other apps can at least disable vibrate for notifications (even if it can't enable it). I would really like this feature, so my email vibrate alert can be silenced at night. As it stands with your app, I have to put the phone in silent mode to kill vibration, which is not desirable (i want my phone to ring).3. Separate ringer and notification volume in the actual menu, so i can star to change one but not the other.4. Purely cosmetic, but a prettier, higher resolution widget for larger screens and a higher resolution icon for the app would be nice. The current widget and app icons are blurry on my Droid. Further, the widget is rather large and the white design doesn't blend with much of anything. For example it matches the power control widget in the photo on the market, but on the Droid, the power control widget looks much different and the widget doesn't match at all.5. If you add constant notification to notification bar, *please* make it optional! I have no problem opening the app to see what profile is engaged (although as long as the app works, I have no need to do this), and would prefer not to have another space (or spaces as Locale does it), in the notification tray to tell me what profile I am in.I hope my wishes/request don't come off as pushy. They are just things I would like to see, and things that I think might improve the app overall. I see quite a few comments on the market requesting some of the things I have noted so I don't think I'm the only one.
